If you want to get involved, find out more information, or have any
suggestions, visit
the Facebook group or contact
MusiciansAtBrown@gmail.com.
Students at Brown pride themselves on the diversity and quality of
artistic performances on campus and we enjoy a rich array of
official and unofficial performance groups. Regardless there exists
a pool of musicians, entertainers, and artists who want to explore
their art with other students but have not yet discovered other
musicians with similar interests and collaborative opportunities
have been left untapped.
Musicians@Brown is a networking tool responding to the need for
facilitating communication and collaboration between artists on
campus. Musicians@Brown will provide a network where musicians,
entertainers, and producers can easily find each other and locate
live performances and events around College Hill. Students can
provide information about the instrument(s) that they play,
potential musical interests (for example jamming or starting a
band), the genres they enjoy, contact information, and other items
that are consolidated in a search enabled database. When a band
needs to find a drummer, a student is looking for people to jam
with, or if someone wants to organize a live music event they now
have Musicians@Brown as a starting point.
A host of new opportunities are now available for students who
previously had limited means for finding musicians in the Brown
community. Musicians@Brown takes advantage of existing social
networking websites and the upcoming transition of the Brown
digital network to Google and will lead to increased sharing and
interaction between Brown students. Users can access contact
information provided on the database, discuss ideas on the group
forum, upload their music to share with a wider audience, receive
immediate feedback, and join on new musical environments that may
not have been previously possible. The accessibility of the
database will enable greater exposure for participating musicians
and ultimately result in more live musical sessions on campus. A
unified musical community spanning the range of musical genres and
styles will make creative collaboration and incorporation more
integral to the Brown community at large.
The success and functionality of Musicians@Brown depends on your
input and the more people that participate the greater the benefit
the site can provide. If you are interested in the project, you can
join the Musicians@Brown Facebook group and fill out the musician
database form.
The project is a gateway for new musical collaboration and artistic
exploration but is part of a broader goal to integrate a community
of all types of artists in and beyond Brown’s campus. The site
model is exportable and can be used as a template for use at other
universities and in order to align the objectives of the site with
the needs of its users feedback is encouraged.
Let’s work together to promote artistic unity and connectedness at
Brown and use Musicians@Brown as the start of a movement for
unprecedented creative collaboration on campus and beyond.
